Where do the Eagles go at running back from here?

Eagles fans got some very unexpected news. Jay Ajayi has been put on IR with a torn acl and is out for the season. It is just the latest setback in what has been a less than ideal start to the season. Losing Ajayi is a blow that the Eagles offense just didn’t need right now. The depth at running back has been hurting all season long. Darren Sproles and Corey Clement have been battling injuries since week one. Smallwood has been healthy, but I don’t count on him to carry a starters workload before his hamstrings start to bother him and he’s on the bench.

I believe the Eagles are in a spot where they need to make a move. They are in win-now mode and need a playmaker in the backfield to take the pressure off of Wentz as he continues to come back from his acl injury. At this point in Sproles’ career, you cannot count on him to be healthy all year and handle 15 carries a game. I love Clement’s game, but he’s another guy who has been injured this year and I’m unsure if he can carry the full workload for the offense. The Eagles aren’t in a position to take a chance on Clement, Sproles, and Smallwood staying healthy. It is now or never and the Rams just continue to get better.

You can’t even compare the Rams and Eagles offenses right now. I shudder to think what the Rams offense would do to the Eagles defense if they played each other on Sunday. It wouldn’t be a pretty sight I’ll tell you that. That is why I am all in on the Eagles going after a top running back. If you can’t stop them, you have to try and outscore them. They just freed up a bunch of cap space by restructuring Fletcher Cox’s contract. I believe that you go all in on Bell do what it takes(within reason) to get a deal done. If you can’t get Bell, call up Buffalo and bring Lesean McCoy back.

I actually think a reunion with McCoy would be the best option. He wouldn’t cost as much as Bell and he has familiarity with Doug Pederson from when he was on Andy Reid’s staff in Philly. It would certainly make for a great story if he came back and turned around our season. As I currently write this, I am sure Howie Roseman is working the phones trying to bring in a running back to replace Ajayi. I’m starting to hear people on social media criticize Howie again. It is time for Howie to silence his critics once again. Do me proud, and make a splash move at running back Howie.
