Brett Brown has become a lightning rod in the Philly sports scene for the last two years. While many people like him as a person, many fans and pundits wonder if he has what it takes to push the Sixers to the next level. His job security for next season has become the main discussion when it comes to Brett Brown. Some feel like anything short of the Eastern Conference finals warrants his dismissal. Others, like myself, believe that if he gets to at least the second round, he should stay as head coach. He has been given two completely different lineups twice this year. I don’t care if your Greg Popovich, that isn’t something easy to work with. I would give Brett Brown the benefit of the doubt going into next season.
The only scenario where I can’t see him back is if the Sixers were to lose in the first round to the Magic or Nets. The organization at that point would be left with no choice. Brown would become the scapegoat and they would move into a different direction. If we are being honest, the Raptors and Bucks both deeper teams than the Sixers. The Sixers have more talent near the top, but depth could hurt the Sixers in a series against those teams and that is despite rotations being shortened in the playoffs.
It will certainly be interesting to say the least. I just don’t see how the Sixers can fire Brett Brown if he loses in the second round. Considering how many times they switched the team up on him this year, I think that would
be unjust. However, they have enough talent where they should be able to make it out of the first round just off that alone. Bring back Brett, Jimmy, and Tobias and see where this thing goes next year.
