The team and fans alike could not have asked for a better start to the weekend. The opening series of the baseball season was everything I hoped it would be. The Phillies offense showed just how lethal it can be, and we got beautiful weather to enjoy the games on Thursday and Saturday. I had the pleasure to go to the game on Saturday. If you had told me I time-traveled back to June 12, 2010, I would have believed you. Instead, it was March 30, 2019. The parking lots filled with fans tailgating in 75-degree weather. The lines to get into the stadium seemed a mile long.
The fan base has been rejuvenated. We were all clamoring for a successful baseball team in this town just as we were for basketball. We sat through the rebuilds of the Sixers and Phillies. Now, we are being rewarded for our patience. The Phillies have their best lineup since 2011. It’s very hard to find a lineup that has no holes in it, one through eight. I would say you have a pretty damn good lineup if you have Herrera, Hernandez, and Franco at the bottom of it.
If the national media isn’t talking about it yet, they will be talking up Harper, Hoskins, and Realmuto as the best three-four-five in baseball. With the way Cutch and Segura can get on base ahead of them, expect great things for those guys. More importantly, expect great things from the Phillies as a whole. The offense looks as advertised. If the starting pitching can hold up, then the Phillies have just as good a shot as anyone to win it all this season.
