I have been vocal about Nick Foles. I honest to god didn’t think he could take the Eagles into LA and beat a Rams team that has never lost back to back games under Sean McVay. I was wrong, and that is a testament to how Nick and the rest of the guys step up when he is on the field. There is something special about the way Foles can just rally the troops and bring the best out of his teammates. It is not to say Wentz can’t, but it is obvious the players really battle for Foles.
At this point, it is looking unlikely Wentz plays again this season. If he is not 100% healthy, there is no reason he should be on the field. You need to let Wentz get healthy, as he is the future of the franchise. In addition, if Foles keeps winning and shows us last year wasn’t a fluke, he shouldn’t be taken out of the lineup either. It’s a tricky situation for Doug Pederson. Doug just needs to let it ride out and see where it goes. He can’t think about the future. He must take this thing one game at a time. I don’t think anyone thought the Eagles had a chance on Sunday.
However, now that they’ve won, and the playoffs are within reach, they must play whoever gives them the best chance to win. It isn’t Wentz at 80% and it’s not Sudfeld. Despite what I’ve said about Foles prior, right now, it’s Nick Foles. If Nick Foles does pull off the win this Sunday versus Houston, you can’t sell the idea to your players and fans that taking him out is the best thing for the team. At that point, Foles is your starter for the rest of the year.
But, should the Eagles put Wentz on IR? I don’t believe so. Let’s say come playoff time, Carson’s back is 100%. Foles has the Eagles rolling, but then he gets hurt. Who better to come in and save the day then Carson Wentz? In a role reversal from last season, that would truly be something right out of a Hollywood script. Even more so than last year.
