In the beginning, the Eagles had Foles working with the first team. However, the good news is that Wentz is cleared for 11-on-11 drills and has been working more with the first team each day.
After a long offseason to bask in their super bowl glory, the Eagles are back on the field working toward a repeat. It’s a beautiful thing to see the team in its entirety out there practicing once again. After losing so many guys last year, how they were able to overcome it and win a super bowl still boggles my mind. Yesterday in the team’s first practice, you had Peters, Sproles, Hicks, and Wentz all back out there practicing. While they weren’t all cleared for a full contact, it’s great to see them out. It’s one step closer to them taking the field for the season opener.
In the beginning, the Eagles had Foles working with the first team. However, the good news is that Wentz is cleared for 11-on-11 drills and has been working more with the first team each day. He just hasn’t been cleared for contact yet. However, those days don’t seem too far off. My offseason prediction was that Wentz would be ready for the season opener. While we still don’t know if that will be the case, we will all have our eyes closely monitoring the situation. From the videos I have seen of Wentz in practice, I see no reason why he won’t be under center week one. You would never know the guy is almost 7 1/2 months removed from a torn acl with the way he has been practicing.
As I wrote last week, training camp doesn’t have the same magic it once did when it was up the road at Lehigh. The “back in the day” feelings can never truly be reciprocated. You aren’t able to just go see for yourself how a certain player looks out there. You only get two or three chances at open practices to do that. You have to rely on the insiders to tell you that Sproles hasn’t lost a step. Which when I read, I couldn’t believe a guy that is 35 and coming off a major injury is still just as fast as he was last season. If you listen to the insiders, they’ll tell you Sidney Jones looks like the truth.
However, if you don’t want to take their word for it, the Eagles first open practice will be on August 5th at the Linc. If you have never been to one, the front rows of the upper deck is the place to be. From there, you can really get a great view of the entire practice in its entirety. I highly recommend getting their as early as possible, and it’s a great environment for the kids as well.
