Do the Sixers have a Plan B?

With every passing day, we’re get closer to the beginning of the NBA free agency. With that being said, my stress levels continue to steadily rise each and every day. There has been so much emphasis put on this offseason not only from the fans, but from Coach, Brett Brown. We have been led to believe for the last few months that the Sixers would come away with a star or two this offseason. Now, here we are, four days away from when teams can speak with free agents which is causing beliefs to start to dwindle.

While a trade for Kawhi Leonard is still possible, it may not be a very wise thing to give up many assets for a one-year rental of Kawhi. He has made it known that he is unlikely to resign anywhere but in Los Angeles. The odds in Vegas of Lebron coming to Philly continue to drop. The Sixers have dropped to +1000 while the Lakers are an overwhelming favorite at -400. With Paul George having Philly as an afterthought, there go your top three choices right out the window. In other words, plan A of acquiring one of those three guys looks like a no go.

So, what is Plan B? Do the Sixers look to make a trade of an all-star like CJ McCollum or Bradley Beal? How about they ride this thing out and just continue developing the players currently on the roster? This is something the Sixers will need to figure out in the coming days. There is nothing wrong with just going the developmental route and taking another crack next offseason. I would prefer they not do that. In the NBA, you need to be aggressive because of the powerhouse the Warriors have built. However, it’s hard to ever really get the perfect scenario in professional sports like the Warriors got as they built their team. Very rarely does it ever occur.

So, what are we left with? If all else fails, the Sixers will have to squeeze everything they can out of Fultz and Zhaire Smith and hope one, if not both, can become impact players to go alongside Simmons and Embiid. It may not be what we want, but sometimes you don’t always get what you want.
